My daughter Caroline is 10 years old and a fairly new YMCA member. She swims competitively year round with a local winter swim club, and currently is training for the chance to compete in the 2014 Middle Atlantic Swimming Junior Olympics. With this goal in mind, she wanted to fine-tune her turn techniques through private instruction. We decided to utilize the benefits of our Y membership, and take advantage of the private swim instruction that is offered through the aquatics program. The Lampeter-Strasburg Y’s Aquatics Director Mike Siers worked with us to choose just the right instructor.
I couldn’t be happier with the personalized instruction Caroline received from Elizabeth Reidenbaugh. She and Caroline connected immediately, discussed goals, and Elizabeth quickly went to work equipping Caroline with not only the technical skills, but also the extra confidence needed to be successful. It became apparent to me that Elizabeth is an experienced and knowledgeable swim instructor who has a focused and positive approach to teaching.
Caroline had a swim meet immediately following her sessions with Elizabeth. Not only did she shave her times in all of her events (most notably 6.21 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly), but she ended the weekend with three new best times and placed in five of the six events she swam. She has also since qualified to compete in the Junior Olympics!
So, our first impression of the YMCA Aquatics Program is a great one. Caroline already has requested that we return for more private instruction from Elizabeth…this time for her breaststroke.
