Fees & Financial Assistance

Fee Structure

At YMCA Camp Shand, we believe that all children should have the opportunity to attend summer camp regardless of the cost. Realizing that families have different abilities to pay, once again this year YCS is offering a Three Tiered Fee Structure.

The goals of moving to this system are:

  • To provide the highest quality programs possible
  • To serve all community income levels
  • To preserve camp for generations to come

This structure is on an honor system and you may choose the tier that best suits you family. Every camper, regardless of the fee they pay, receives the same level of attention, programming, services, and loving care.

  • Tier A: Represents most closely the actual cost of operating our program and facilities
  • Tier B: Our partially subsidized fee for those families who can pay a little more, however, cannot afford the actual cost.
  • Tier C: Our standard, historically subsidized fee. This rate does not reflect the true cost of operating camp.

If you cannot afford the cost of Tier C please apply for additional assistance by downloading and completing a Financial Assistance application.

Financial Assistance

Thank you for taking the time to find out what the YMCA can do for you! The Lancaster Family YMCA and YMCA Camp Shand have been helping families go to camp for over 115 years. We tap all our available resources to help you and your family have a great summer. Organizations such as the Lancaster Family YMCA Foundation, the YMCA Campaign for Youth, and Camp Shand alumni all donate funds to help children in go to camp. We have made the process for applying and distributing the financial assistance as easy as possible. With the number of applicants we receive, we do recognize each application on a first come, first served, basis. We would encourage everyone to submit their completed financial assistance applications as early as possible.

Parent Participation

Parents are expected to participate by paying a portion of the total camp fee, dependent on the assistance awarded. All payments are to be made in accordance with YMCA tuition and fee policies. Payment plans are available with prior arrangements. Please contact our Camp Director at 717-272-8001 for details.

How Much Can I Expect To Receive?

With all the efforts and support we are given, we are still not able to give all the money that is needed in our community. For this reason, the YMCA does not usually grant full assistance. A range of 20% to 80% of the highest advertised fee is typically awarded.

When Will I Receive Notice Of The Approval?

Applications will be processed only when all required information is received. Please double check all forms before sending them in. Completed applications will be reviewed and notice will be given in approximately two weeks if received before May 31. Applications are accepted throughout the summer, however, applications submitted after the start of camp may take up to 4 weeks to process due to the volume of camp work during this time of year. We encourage you to apply early as many camps fill early in the season.

If, after reviewing the standard assistance available through our Tiered Pricing structure, you find that you cannot afford the cost of Tier C please apply for additional assistance by downloading and completing a Financial Assistance application and returning it to YMCA Camp Shand Box 339, Cornwall, PA 17016.
