Sports Instructor

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Association Sports Core Leader, the Sports Instructor will help teach all levels of sports and character development in a positive atmosphere that will allow the participants to learn and grow. Sports Instructor will create a climate that fosters YMCA goals and a fun, engaging atmosphere for all participants.

• Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program.
• Teach sports skills to kids from beginners to advance.
• Provide program instruction that matches participants’ strengths; assessing challenges and offering guidance for improvement.
• Greet and connect with families on a positive level throughout the duration of the program.
• Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.
• Enforce program rules and structure consistently.
• Reinforce positive behavior and redirect negative behavior.
• Demonstrate the YMCA core values and incorporate them into the day’s activities. Teach them to the participants so they know them and can demonstrate them throughout the day.
• Provide consistent supervision with a focus on safety for the participants at all times. This includes abiding by all YMCA safety policies and regulations including Child Abuse Prevention standards, completing incident/accident reports, sign in/sign out procedures, taking attendance, etc.
• Preparation and implementation of activities, and lesson plans for children in a goal oriented curriculum consistent with policies, procedures and philosophies of the LFY.
• Preparation of written lesson plans with standards and guidelines.
2. Facilities and Operations Management
   • OClosely monitor and maintain facility.
   • Monitor work area, equipment, members and staff for safe and working operation at all times.

Education and Knowledge Requirements:
Experience working with children.
Certifications: CPR, AED and First Aid required within 90 days of hire

Summer Camp Assistant Group Supervisor

Under the general direction of the Summer Camp Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for providing a high quality learning experience, which promotes a developmental approach to the social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth of children utilizing the YMCA 4 Core Values. This position is also responsible for identifying, and responding appropriately to, customer wants, needs, and expectations through caring, honest, respectful, and responsible actions and interactions that contribute to the relationship between the member and the YMCA organization.

• Meet and greet parents and children each day when they arrive. Create a working relationship with parents for the purpose of best serving their children. Learn and use the parents name.
• Learn and use the children’s names.

• Provision of positive communication with parents by giving advice and information about their child on a daily informal basis.

Summer Camp Coordinator

Under the general direction of Family Services Director, the incumbent is responsible for providing high quality child care to the children in the YMCA Summer Camp Program. This position is also responsible for identifying, and responding appropriately to, customer wants, needs, and expectations through caring, honest, respectful, and responsible actions and interactions that contribute to the relationship between the member and the YMCA organization.

   • Facilitates relationship building opportunities between program families and the YMCA.

Facility Technician

Under the supervision of the Facility Director, this position works closely with the branch operators to ensure the facilities are maintained according to established standards and expectations. The Facility Technician will plan and perform repair of buildings, mechanical and/or electrical equipment, plumbing, and HVAC systems; manage pool chemicals and filtration systems, repair fitness and other program equipment; perform maintenance of grounds; operate heavy equipment; ensure a safe, clean and healthy environment and a positive member experience. This current position will be based out of the City Branch and is responsible for performing basic maintenance tasks, providing recommendations for major repairs, completing and coordinating preventative maintenance tasks and overseeing contract work for facility. Advanced Director of Membership & Aquatics

Under the direction of the City Center YMCA Branch Manager, the Advanced Director of Membership & Aquatics provides operational leadership to the day-to-day operations of the membership as well as supervise the Aquatics Director.  The Advanced Director leads initiatives to increase the YMCA’s position in the community as a leading partner in wellness and aquatics, along with serving those with diverse abilities.  This position serves on the branch leadership team and is also responsible for managing membership and aquatic-related financials, supervision of staff, volunteer development and for being a YMCA advocate in the community.  A strong focus is placed on delivering a superior member experience, enhancing member connection and engagement, thereby leading to increased member satisfaction and retention.

Aquatics Director

The Aquatics Director ensures the aquatic operation including the outdoor pool, and aquatic programming that includes, swim lessons, swim team, and lifeguard classes are planned, organized, and delivered in compliance with the YUSA Aquatic programming guidelines and the rules that govern competitive sports. Additionally, The Aquatics Director will spend his or her time teaching/instructing program participants.  They will maintain open and clear communication with parents, volunteers and YMCA staff in regard to aquatic program expectations, logistics and safety guidelines. Recruits, trains and supports assigned staff-Lifeguards, swim instructors, swim coaches. Additional responsibilities include hiring, payroll functionality, and training of staff; curriculum development and evaluation; budget management; and adhering to all regulatory standards. Also provides liaison to committee(s) and advisory board(s) and participates in annual campaign activities.

Cross Country Coach

The Cross Country Coach responsible for instructing all cross country practices for participants ages 7-15 years old. Provides set up and breakdown of all equipment. Supervises all participants during practices and meets. Ensures a positive learning environment. Facilitates and maintains constant supervision of players to ensure safety.  Reports to Association Sports Director if any issues may arise. Must be available on Monday evenings along with some Saturdays.

• Must have prior cross country experience

Responsibilities
The Instructional Coach has three primary responsibilities: 1) Pre-service professional development and ongoing coaching for teachers and teaching assistants; 2) Providing leadership on the implementation of instruction and meeting the academic needs of scholars; 3) Analyzing assessment data to inform instruction and instructional groupings.

Professional Development & Coaching

• Adapt and facilitate professional development for instructional staff on at least the following topics prior to site launch and ongoing as needed:
• Power Scholars Academy’s approach, philosophy and Standards of Practice
• Power Scholars Academy’s site and program expectations and procedures
• Power Scholars Academy’s curriculum and assessment methods
• Using data to inform instruction and student groupings
• Lesson planning and differentiating instruction
• Behavior management
• Conduct classroom observations to ensure proper implementation of curriculum, instructional practices, and classroom/behavior management
• Provide feedback to staff on instructional practices
• Identify staff learning needs and develop just-in-time, appropriate individualized or group professional development and coaching to meet needs
• Review lesson plans and other instructional support tools, provide timely feedback, and create and maintain “best practice” instructional strategies and resources for staff

Leadership & Relationships

• Oversee the implementation of instruction, including curriculum implementation, instructional methods and practices, and classroom and behavior management
• Collaborate with members of the Site Leadership Team to ensure a safe, productive, and efficient program for staff and scholars
• Raise issues with Site Leadership Team as appropriate, particularly related to the safety and achievement of scholars
• Monitor scholars’ educational and social progress and make necessary recommendations for adjustments

Proficiency with Assessments & Use of Assessment Data

• Review and analyze diagnostic and on-going formal assessment data with teaching staff and develop appropriate instructional groups
• Coach staff on continuing use of assessments and assessment data to adjust instruction and instructional groupings
• Coach and support staff in the implementation of data-driven and differentiated instructional practices in both literacy and mathematics
• Ensure uniformity and timeliness of assessments and family reporting

Participate in Professional Development

• Comply with all Power Scholars Academy and/or district professional development requirements

Additional Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Previous relevant experience as head or assistant head of instruction
• Previous relevant experience in coaching of instructional staff

Key Responsibilities: The Summer Program Manager is responsible for building a strong summer program team that works well together, overseeing the educational quality of the program and implementing the program model to create the best learning environment for the scholars. Key areas of focus for this role include:

Pre-program planning and support
• Participate in the summer program planning process prior to the start of the program. Collaborate with the recruitment department in the selection of staff.
• Assist with site enrollment plan development, enrollment, parent events, and assisting parents in filling in paperwork, follow-up phone calls.
• Ensure that all curriculum and supplies are received and distributed prior to program start.
• Deliver On-site training along with the Instructional Specialist to site staff in preparation for program launch.

Program Management

• Ensure that the goals of the program are achieved for each scholar.
• Manage and evaluate staff to ensure proper staffing ratios, instruction and success of the program.
• Coordinate activities and events for parents, scholars and staff, including field trips, guest speakers and community service projects.
• Participate in the program planning process prior to the start of the program and assist with scholar enrollment and parent events.
• Ensure that all curriculum and supplies are received, distributed and maintained throughout the program.
• Manage the established budget for the program.
• Oversee the use of data driven instruction utilizing formative assessments.
• Work closely with the Instructional Specialist to ensure scholars are receiving meaningful and engaging instruction.
• Implement and maintain a positive behavior management system that is clear and aligns with the school, district and state requirements.
• Ensure the ongoing health and safety of scholars at all times.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements.
• Enter weekly scholar attendance.
• Process bi-weekly staff payroll.
• Order and receive breakfast and lunch on a daily basis.

Developing Partnerships

• Serve as the connection between Power Scholars Academy and the scholars’ parents to ensure support for their child’s growth.
• Coordinate Power Scholars Academy’s partnership with the school by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including school administrators and parents.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required, with a Master’s in Education or other related discipline preferred.
• Passion and commitment to improving the quality of education for children living in under resourced communities.
• Experience working in urban communities and managing an out of school time program or other community-based youth program.
• Experience working in an elementary school environment.
• Certification in Education Administration highly preferred.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in managing different levels of staff.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with parents, administrators, staff and scholars.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and organization skills.
• Strong technical skills, with ability to learn new programs quickly as needed.
