2019 Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program Positions

The Lancaster Familly YMCA is committed to Closing the Achievement Gap in Lancaster County by ensuring all children have access to summer learning opportunities. Our Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program is run in partnership with the Lampeter-Strasburg School District and is designed is to prevent summer learning loss for students in the district who are struggling with reading through a combination of literacy instruction (using the 4 Blocks Model), quality enrichment activities aligned to literacy instruction, and positive youth development opportunities.

2019 Summer Camp Positions at YMCA Camp Shand

We’re currently hiring staff for our summer camp programs at YMCA Camp Shand.  Nestled on 120 acres of scenic woodland in Cornwall, PA, YMCA Camp Shand offers day and overnight camping programs for youth entering 1st through 11th grades and a summer full of activities like canoeing, hiking, archery, campfires, ropes course challenges and swimming. 2019 Summer Day Camp Positions ( YMCA Branches)

The Y is currently hiring Summer Day Camp staff for the 2019 summer camp program at our branches. We’re looking for enthusiastic leaders to provide a high-quality summer learning experience through fun and enriching activities and lessons that promote youth development and incorporate the core values of our YMCA.

Summer Day Camp Locations:

Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA: June 3-August 16
City Center YMCA: June 10-August 23
Camps runs from 7 AM – 6 PM each day.

Positions Available at both YMCA branches

Summer Camp Aide
Education:  High School Diploma
Experience:  prefer 1 year experience working with children.

Summer Camp Assistant Group Supervisor
Education:  High School Diploma
Experience:  minimum 2-year documented experience working with children.

Summer Camp Group Supervisor
Education:  BS in Education or Human Services Field
Experience:  minimum of 1 year experience working with children.

Summer Camp Coordinator
Education:  BS Education or Human Services Field, AA in Education or Human Services Field
Experience:  2-year minimum experience working with children.

CPR/First Aid Certification and Child Abuse, Criminal and FBI clearances required for all camp positions.

 

YMCA Association

Floor Trainers

Under the general direction of the Health and Wellness Director, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, teaching, instructing, and retention of their program participants. The incumbent is responsible for identifying, and responding appropriately to, customer wants, needs and expectations through caring, honest, respectful, and responsible actions and interactions that contribute to the relationship between the member and the YMCA organization. Qualifications/Certifications:  Accredited personal training certification (must be from accredited sources, NETA, NSCA, AFAA, ACSM, etc.). 1+ years of hands-on work in the fitness field is preferred.

Group Exercise Instructors

Currently recruiting for permanent instructors as well as substitutes to teach Group Exercise classes at all 3 Branches (City, Lampeter-Strasburg, and New Holland). Qualified candidates will be responsible for the planning, teaching, instructing and retention of their group class, and schedules vary according to incumbent availability. The instructor must have Group Exercise Instructor Certification and a high school diploma/GED and have previous experience teaching group exercise classes. Classes include Cycle, Body Pump, Zumba, HIIT and Yoga, among others. Must obtain all clearances required and be CPR/First Aid/AED certified within 90 days of employment. This is an hourly, part-time position averaging 1-3 hours per week.

Sports Instructors

Sports Instructors teach sports skills to kids from beginners to advance, specifically in basketball and baseball. Sports Instructors prepare and implement activities and lesson plans for children in a goal-oriented curriculum consistent with policies, procedures and philosophies of the Lancaster Family YMCA. We are looking for energetic people that are able to lead activities in a gymnasium, classroom or outdoors at all 3 Branches (City, Lampeter-Strasburg, and New Holland.) Required experience working with youth and families. Individual must be able to work evening hours, from 4:30 pm – 7 pm. Must obtain all clearances required within 90 days of employment. This is a part-time, hourly position, averaging 5-10 hours per week.

Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor

We are looking for a candidate to instruct Red Cross Lifeguard classes to staff, members and guests as needed. Qualified candidates will be able to provide a high-quality learning experience to promote competency in skill sets through a combination of lecture, video, Powerpoint presentations and hands-on learning techniques for all classes taught. Will also be required to transport any class supplies to the location of a class and responsible for the set-up and tear down of the classroom to its original order. Lifeguard Instructor Certification required along with previous experience in instructing Red Cross classes or similar experience with teaching. Must be flexible to instruct classes based on the needs of the YMCA to include days, nights & weekend hours. Most classes are held on weekends. This is an hourly part-time position.

Aquatics Fitness Instructors

The Y is currently recruiting individuals who are experienced instructors to teach aquatics fitness classes and sub as needed. These classes are generally weekdays (late mornings/early afternoons) and Saturday mornings. Specific classes needing coverage are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7-9 am. Qualified candidates will possess experience in leading an exercise group in aquatics or related area. Aquatic Fitness and/or Water Aerobic Certification preferred. This is a part-time, hourly position averaging 4-6 hours per week.

 

City Center YMCA

Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Lifestyle Coach

The DPP coach will facilitate the delivery of YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program by providing support and guidance to program participants, and by maintaining fidelity of the curriculum. The candidate must have strong communication and facilitation skills, the ability to build strong relationships with individuals and build community within a group, and have empathy for health seekers.  Must be flexible to work with a wide variety of people; detail, data and computer savvy.  Knowledge of basic health, nutrition, and fitness is encouraged and an understanding of the behavior change required. Familiarity and proficiency with Listen First or motivation interviewing highly encouraged. Qualifications/Certifications: Employment is contingent upon achieving HIPAA certification and the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach Certification and other requirements as solely determined by the YMCA. CPR, First Aid, AED for Child and Adult to be completed within 90 days of hire. Past experience in group facilitation or individual counseling.

Lifeguards

We currently have openings for lifeguards to work year-round at our City Center YMCA branch. Any experience teaching swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes or coaching is a plus. This is an hourly, part-time position. Available shifts are Monday-Friday 4:45-9:00 am, 12:45-5 pm, 5-10 pm. We also need weekend guards between the hours of 6:45 am-6 pm Saturdays and 9:45 am-5 pm Sundays.

 

Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA

Swim Team Coach – L-S Y Otters

The Y is seeking a coach for our L-S Y Otters Summer Swim Team. The candidate would provide competitive-level swim instruction to the swim team participants and maintain constant supervision of swimmers to ensure safety. The coach is responsible for creating positive, nurturing relationships with swimmers and building cooperative relationships with parents and the Swim Team Committee, promoting and supporting the potential of all swimmers in the program, and facilitating peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience. Qualifications/Certifications Required: Minimum age of 21. No less than 3 years of experience coaching similar swim teams. CPR, first aid, YMCA Lifeguard, and/or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant certifications required. Meets all USA and YMCA Swimming Head Coach requirements.

Shifts needed: Tuesday from 2:45 pm-4:30 pm; Wednesday from 3:45 pm-5:30 pm; Thursday from 3:45 pm-6:15 pm; and Saturday from 7:45 am-12:15 pm, as well as private lessons (mostly held evenings and weekends.) This is an hourly, part-time position.

 

YMCA at New Holland

Lifeguards

We are currently seeking lifeguards to work year-round at our YMCA at New Holland branch pool. Lifeguard certification and guarding experience is preferred, but the YMCA will certify you if you are able to pay the $35 Shallow-Water Lifeguard Certification Fee. Any experience teaching swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes or coaching is a plus. This is an hourly, part-time position. Available shifts are Monday-Friday 5:00 – 8:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., and 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Aquatics Fitness Instructor

The Y is currently recruiting individuals who are experienced instructors to teach aquatics fitness classes and sub as needed. These classes are generally weekdays (late mornings/early afternoons) and Saturday mornings. Qualified candidates will possess experience in leading an exercise group in aquatics or related area. Aquatic Fitness and/or Water Aerobic Certification preferred. This is a part-time, hourly position averaging 1-3 hours per week.

Swim Lesson Instructor

We are looking to hire Swim Lesson Instructors who will be able to work year-round. WSI/YSI certified, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification or comparable experience required for this position. Experience teaching preschool and/or school age group swim lessons to all levels/abilities preferred, but willing to train. We are especially looking for applicants who have the availability to work any of the following shifts (some for private lessons): Mornings – Mondays 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturdays 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., Evenings – Tuesdays 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursdays 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is a part-time, hourly position.
