Lancaster, PA – On March 19, 2015, the Lancaster Family YMCA honored Dr. William R. Boben, Jr. with the John R. Mott Servant Leader Award at its Annual Association Dinner.

Named for one of the great leaders of the YMCA movement, the John R. Mott Servant Leader Award is presented to an individual or business who models the values of servant leadership while demonstrating support for others and a commitment to the community.

Dr. William R. Boben, Jr., one of the three founders of Lancaster Pediatric Associates, Ltd., was recognized for his service to Camp Shand, the Y’s day and overnight youth camp in Cornwall, PA. For more than a decade, Dr. Boben has volunteered his services as Camp Physician, providing health check-ups for all incoming overnight campers and offering medical guidance to the Camp Shand Health Officer throughout the summer season. Dr. Boben’s volunteer service and expertise has been vital to ensuring campers have a healthy and positive summer camp experience, and has also enabled Camp Shand to preserve and redirect financial resources towards increasing financial assistance for more children to attend Y camp programs who could not otherwise afford those opportunities. Dr. Boben has also served on the Camp Shand Board of Managers since 2012.

Dan Blakinger, a partner with Blakinger, Byler & Thomas, PC, was elected chair of the Lancaster Family YMCA Association Board of Directors for 2015. Dan joined the board in 2008. Since that time, he has served as board secretary, treasurer and vice chair. Dan also serves on the board finance committee.

Also named as board officers for 2015 are: Jill Sebest Welch, Partner, Barley Snyder, LLC, serving as vice chair; Edward Monborne, Chief Executive Officer, Reinsel Kuntz Lesher, LLP, serving as treasurer; and Jeff Klibert, President, Lift-All Co Inc., serving as secretary.

At the Annual Meeting, the Y launched new initiatives for 2015 that focus on addressing pressing community needs by expanding existing Y signature programs. These initiatives include increasing financial assistance to enable an additional 100 youth from lower income families to attend Y summer camp programs; providing a full-year, fully subsidized kindergarten readiness program to 20 children in need and a fully subsidized four-week kindergarten readiness summer camp for an additional 20 children at the Lancaster Family YMCA Early Learning Center, in partnership with the School District of Lancaster; and expanding the CaRE (Cancer Rehabilitation Exercise) program to the YMCA at New Holland branch to support the recovery efforts of 96 cancer survivors at all YMCA branches.
