Lancaster Family YMCA offers support to Government Employees impacted by the Shutdown
Lancaster, PA – As the federal government shutdown continues, the three branches of the Lancaster Family YMCA Association are extending support to those impacted.
Any federal government employee who is not being paid due to the government shutdown is welcome to use the YMCA’s facilities free of charge through February 28. If the individual is already a member of the Lancaster Family YMCA, their next monthly membership fee will be waived. Those impacted and interested in this offer, simply need to visit the Welcome Desks at the City Center YMCA, Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA or YMCA at New Holland with their government-issued ID to take advantage of this.
“At the YMCA, we work to strengthen the foundations of our community. When we see an area in our community where help is needed, we do all we can. We hope that those impacted by the government shutdown will take advantage of the mental, physical and emotional support we are here to give everyone in our community,” said Ben Bamford of the Lancaster Family YMCA Association.
The YMCA’s support of our community extends beyond the government shutdown, as they have always provided financial assistance to those in need to ensure everyone has access to the YMCA’s facilities and programs.
In 2017, the Lancaster Family YMCA provided $771,019 in direct financial assistance and subsidized services to the community for participation in early learning programs, summer camps, swimming lessons, cancer recovery classes, membership and programs. “We are grateful to the many individuals and businesses who donate to the YMCA every year to make this possible,” said Bamford.
