Statement on Lancaster Family YMCA’s Status

Unfortunately, at this time, it is not practical to reopen the Lancaster Family YMCA (LFY), even as Lancaster County moves to the green phase of the state’s plan for reopening. Our hope is to reopen this fall. We have been working diligently to secure and progress toward a sustainability plan by the end of this month.

Since we shared our open letter to the community last month, we have made significant progress and are moving forward with a series of urgent initiatives, including:

  • Initiation of a fund-raising campaign to invest in our future. We have had promising preliminary contributions and a formal announcement will be coming soon.
  • Comprehensive review of our facilities, including the City Center YMCA, Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA, and Camp Shand to determine the best and most effective usage of each
  • Engagement with community partners to assess opportunities for collaboration
  • Detailed planning for staffing and facility resources to restart operations and successfully fulfill our commitment to the Lancaster community.

We are grateful for the generous support and understanding that our community has extended and we are doing all we can to ensure a long and successful future for LFY.
